Corran Ferry foot passenger service - October holidays and Mull Rally

Ahead of the October school holidays and the Mull Rally, 13-16 October, The Highland Council in partnership with the Emergency Liaison Group comprising emergency service partners and transport agencies, would like to appeal to the public and particularly road users visiting the Lochaber area over the coming weeks that the Corran Ferry is currently suspended due to essential repairs, and  alternative foot passenger transport services from Corran and Fort William to Ardgour  are in operation.  No vehicle carrying service is available at this time and alternative road routes are required to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula.

What does this mean for traffic travelling on the A82 and A861?

Road users travelling on the A82 Corran - Fort William, A830 Fort William – Corpach area, A861 around Loch Linnhe and the A884 to Lochaline are advised to plan their journey in advance and allow extra time.  Particularly the weekend of the Mull Rally 13-15 Oct, road users are being asked to consider if journeys using the A861 route are necessary and to avoid if possible.

Wednesday 11/Thursday 12 October pre-event and Monday 16 October post event are also likely to be high volume traffic days as competitors, vehicles, trailers, crew and spectators of the Mull Rally are likely to travel these routes.

The Calmac ferry service from Lochaline to Fishnish will operate a normal service.

Anyone travelling should check their distribution/service status by visiting  https://www.calmac.co.uk/service-status

Please only use this route if the Mull-Oban ferry service is not available as no onwards ferry service is available from Ardgour to Corran and a lengthy alternative route would need to be used via the A861 and A830 via Fort William.

A82 – Corran Ferry area, traffic management arrangements are in place with temporary 30 mph speed limits on the A82 and A861 approach roads to the Corran Narrows.  Warning signage, information signage, and electronic VMS signs are in use throughout the routes and drivers are asked not to stop on the A82 or A861 approach roads.

Real time information updates for the Corran Ferry service are available on the @CorranFerry X account and Corran Ferry Facebook feed and on the Council website. Wider Journey information is available from Traffic Scotland  at www.traffic.gov.scot or on their X account - @trafficscotland.
