BSGLA - classroom extension works

Thòisich obair-togail o chionn ghoirid air dà sheòmar-teagaisg ùr a tha mar leudachadh air Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar (BSGLA).

’S e companaidh ionadail, Corrigan Contractors Ltd, a tha a’ dèanamh na h-obrach. Bheir am pròiseact £1M meudachadh air meud-comais na bun-sgoile aig BSGLA gu 8 seòmraichean-teagaisg agus stèidhichte air Làn-chòir Teagaisg Bun-sgoile Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd, dh’fhaodadh àite a bhith innte airson eadar 199 agus 225 sgoilear.

Bidh am pròiseact a’ gabhail a-steach leasachaidhean beaga a thaobh na sgoil-àraich, agus bidh leudachadh beag ann airson oifis agus taighean-beaga a bharrachd dha na sgoilearan. Thèid raon-cluiche na sgoile a leudachadh seach gun deach na seòmraichean-teagaisg ùra a thogail air pàirt dhen raon a bh’ ann.

Thuirt Cathraiche Comataidh an Fhoghlaim, an Comhairliche Iain MacFhionnlaigh: “’S e fìor dheagh naidheachd a th’ ann gu bheil fàs soirbheachail ann an coimhearsnachd na Gàidhlig thar Loch Abar a-nis a’ cur feum air tuilleadh sheòmraichean-teagaisg. Nuair a chaidh an togalach a dhealbhachadh an toiseach, chaidh beachdachadh gu cùramach air fàs san àm ri teachd gus am biodh cothrom ann an togalach a leudachadh.

“Bu toil leam taing a thoirt dhan a h-uile duine a thug am pròiseact gu buil agus do Riaghaltas na h-Alba airson maoineachadh a chuir ris an leudachadh. Tha mi a’ coimhead air adhart gu mòr ri cluinntinn mu adhartas agus ri bhith a’ tadhal air an leudachadh ùr nas anmoiche am-bliadhna.”

Thuirt Cathraiche Comataidh na Gàidhlig, an Comhairliche Calum Rothach: “Tha Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar air a dhol bho neart gu neart agus tha feum a-nis air an dàrna leudachadh. Bheir an leudachadh air na seòmraichean-teagaisg agus na leasachaidhean eile cothrom do choimhearsnachd na Gàidhlig a bhith a’ sìor leasachadh is a’ sìor fhàs air feadh Loch Abar.”

Tha am pròiseact togail air taic fhaighinn bho Mhaoin Calpa Gàidhlig na h-Alba, a bhios a’ toirt taic do dh’ùghdarrasan ionadail agus pròiseactan coimhearsnachd le cosgaisean togail. Tha Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd a’ faighinn taic bhon mhaoineachadh seo gus prìomhachas a thoirt do sgoiltean a dh’fheumas solar is taic do chànan na Gàidhlig a leudachadh.

Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar Extension

Construction recently commenced on a two-classroom extension to Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar (BSGLA), the Gaelic primary school serving Lochaber.

The works are being carried out by local company Corrigan Contractors Ltd.  The £1M project will increase the primary school capacity at BSGLA to 8 classrooms and based on the Council’s Primary School Teaching Entitlements could accommodate between 199 and 225 pupils.

The project will include minor improvements to the nursery, with a small extension to provide an office and extra pupil toilets.  The school playground will be extended to compensate for the space lost to the new classrooms.

Education Committee Chair, Cllr John Finlayson said: “It’s wonderful news that the successful growth of the Gaelic Community across Lochaber now requires more classroom accommodation. When the building was originally designed future growth was carefully considered to allow for later expansion.

“I’d like to thank all involved in making this project a reality and to the Scottish Government for funding to support the expansion, I very much look forward to progress reports and visiting the new extension later this year.”

Gaelic Committee Chair, Cllr Calum Munro said: "Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar has grown from strength to strength and now requires a second extension.  The classroom extension and other improvements will allow for the Gaelic community to continue to thrive and grow across Lochaber.”

The build project has been supported by funding from the Scottish Gaelic Capital Fund, which supports Local Authorities and community projects with construction costs. The Highland Council is supported through this funding to give priority to schools that need to expand provision and support for the Gaelic language.
