Council Disappointed at Loss of Nairn and Kingussie District Courts

The Highland Council is disappointed that the Scottish Courts Service has confirmed closure of Nairn and Kingussie District Courts from June, next year, when cases will be heard at a new JP Court in Inverness.

The Council responded to a consultation on the future of the courts by highlighting the importance of dispensing justice at a community level, enhanced with the knowledge of local Justices of the Peace.

Convener Sandy Park said: “The Council was joined by a number of local organisations in seeking retention of District Courts in Nairn and Kingussie.  It is disappointing that the Courts Service were not convinced of the merits of our case.”
