Union Street Update

Emergency work to make safe two chimney stacks on a listed building at the junction of Drummond Street and Union Street, Inverness, is likely to be completed sooner than anticipated.  A re-assessment of the hazard has resulted in a decision being taken that an effective repair can be achieved by the application of fresh mortar and that the stacks do not require to be removed, as previously thought necessary.

Contractors are expected to commence work over the next few days.

Since the risk to public safety was identified on Tuesday, access to Union Street from Academy Street has been restricted to emergency vehicles and there has been no access between Drummond Street and Union Street.

As a result of the re-assessment of the hazard,  access has been reinstated on Union Street and between Drummond Street and Union Street.
