An Amber Weather Warning from the Met Office is due to take effect from 00:01am on Tuesday, 31 December 2024 and covers a number of areas within the Highland region. At particular risk of flooding are areas within Nairn and Badenoch & Strathspey.
Nairn:
Flood barriers have been installed at the River Nairn and at Harbour Street prior to the weather warning becoming effective overnight.
The Fishertown area of Nairn is at high risk of flooding and residents in this area, who have experienced flooding issues at their property in the past, can collect sandbags from the Highland Council’s depot at the Recycling Centre on the A939.
It is currently anticipated that water levels will peak in this area tomorrow (Tuesday, 31 December 2024) during the early afternoon.
Badenoch & Strathspey:
Aviemore: Dalfaber Road and Aviemore Holiday Park are anticipated to be at high risk of flooding during this Amber Weather Warning. Those staying at the caravan park are advised, if at all possible, to seek alternative accommodation due to the imminent risk of flooding in this area.
