Storm Floris - Fort William high street closed for public safety
Fort William High Street and Middle Street are closed for public safety.
The road closures are due to a large section of copper roof that has come unstable due to high winds.
Highland Council roads and building control teams are assisting Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Adjacent buildings have been evacuated, and sections of both High Street and Middle Street have been closed off.
Structural engineers from building control will assess the damage as soon as possible, however due to the current wind conditions, it's not possible to safely access the roof to assess the full extent of the damage.
Further updates will be made available as soon as possible on the reopening of the streets.
The Highland Council is liaising with partners agencies in response to the impact of Storm Floris across the region.
Council operatives are also dealing with numerous fallen trees across Highland Council roads where it is safe to do so.
