Lochbroom House Refurbishment

A proposed £600,000 refurbishment of Lochbroom House, Ullapool – a care centre for older people - has prompted The Highland Council to seek alternative accommodation for the nine residents and the 12 people, who attend the day care service and lunch club, while work is carried out.

Due to start in the spring of next year and last for 42 weeks, the upgrade will ensure that facilities for residents and day care/lunch club users are modernised and that Lochbroom House meets all fire safety and disabled access requirements.

For residents, the Council is seeking suitable, accessible and, ideally, en-suite accommodation in the Ullapool area or within a 45-minute drive. In order to ensure minimum disruption to residents, the Council is seeking accommodation at no more than two different locations and ideally at a single location. Any accommodation identified by the Council as being potentially suitable, will be required to be approved by the Care Commission and any other relevant agency prior to use.

Anyone wishing to express an interest in submitting a proposal to provide the required accommodation is asked to contact Project Manager, Gillian Grant, email Gillian.Grant@highland.gov.uk for further information and a tender pack. The deadline is noon on Friday 23 November.

Lochbroom House is one of 19 care homes for older people across Highland run by the Council and is the latest to be upgraded by the Council.

The Council has spent £1.5million on Bayview House (Thurso), Melvich Community Care Unit, Seaforth House (Golspie), Dail Mhor (Strontian) and The Mackintosh Centre (Mallaig).  Work costing a further £575,000 is currently taking place at Pulteney House in Wick and at Caladh Sona in Melness and will be finished before the end of this year.

In a third phase of refurbishment planned for 2008-9, the Council is planning to upgrade The Telford Centre in Fort Augustus and An Acarsaid in Broadford.
