Public views sought for 2025/2026 taxi fare review in Highland
People are being asked for their views on proposals by The Highland Council to review the level of charges for the hire of taxis or private hire cars fitted with taxi meters operating under licence of The Highland Council.
The Council has a statutory duty in terms of Section 17 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 to review its scales for the fares and other taxi related charges every 18 months.
At the recent Highland Licensing Committee meeting held on 16 September 2025, Members agreed a draft tariff for public consultation. The draft proposes no change to existing tariffs, with the only change being in relation to the maximum luggage charge increasing from £5.00 to £10.00.
This proposed change, if approved, would take effect from February 2026.
A full copy of the draft tariff for public consultation can be found on the council’s website - Licensing news | Licensing news | The Highland Council
