  • Bronze Age hoard found at Rosemarkie to feature -

Recent archaeological discoveries and research from across the Highlands and beyond will be the focus of the 2025 Highland Archaeology Festival which takes place in Inverness this coming weekend.

This includes a talk about the exceptional Bronze Age hoard found at Rosemarkie which has been in the national news this week. This precious hoard of neatly packed items buried for safekeeping almost 3,000 years ago, was unearthed along with evidence of several Bronze Age houses at a building site on the Black isle. The archaeologists undertaking the analysis of the objects have said it was the "most complete and complicated" example of its type yet found in Scotland.

The conference programme features talks, the opportunity to network with a wide variety of stalls to browse. Attending will be a diverse range of local groups, commercial archaeologists, universities, national organisations and museums.

Tickets are still available for anyone interested in coming along and taking part in the event that runs on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September at The Highland Council Chamber, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness

Chair of The Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Ken Gowans said: “Our 2025 Highland Archaeology conference will highlight recent work on the archaeology and heritage of the Highlands. At well as informative guest speakers, there will be an opportunity to speak to representatives from local groups and organisations and brow lots of interesting stalls. It is about coming together to share the unique and special heritage of the Highlands.

“Tickets are still available, so I urge anyone interested to book their place, be it for both days or one day. Everyone will be made to feel very welcome.”

The full conference programme can be viewed on the HAF website (Highland Archaeology Festival (HAF) | Conference) and places for the conference can be booked on Eventbrite (Highland Archaeology Festival Research Conference 2025 Tickets, Multiple Dates | Eventbrite).
