Capital Programme approved for Inverness Area roads 2026/27
Members of the City of Inverness Area Committee have agreed a proposed rolling programme of road works for the Inverness Area roads capital allocation for 2026/27 onwards.
The agreed programme was approved prior to confirmation of the Area budget which will be confirmed at the Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee on 12 February 2026. Members also noted that the Area rolling programme may require to be updated once results from the Scottish Road Maintenance Condition Survey have been received and considered.
The estimated local funding allocation for the City of Inverness Area (based on the 2025/26 figures) is £1.663 million.
Leader of Inverness and Area Cllr Ian Brown said: “By adopting a rolling programme approach, the Council can enable officers to start delivering agreed road works as soon as budgets are confirmed and to react quickly if additional external funding becomes available in future.
“This proactive approach to roads maintenance and improvement is strongly aligned with the Council’s ‘Our Future Highland’ strategic commitment to improving road condition and maintenance.
“Members welcomed the opportunity to review and agree the proposed area roads capital programme, and I am pleased that today we have agreed a number of schemes that can be prioritised for capital funding works.”
Councillors have agreed funding allocations for 33 specified locations for roads resurfacing works and the five Wards (12,13,14, 15 and 17) have each been allocated funding for footpaths reconstruction/resurfacing works from the capital allocation.
A budget of £200,000 for major patching for all Inverness Wards was also agreed.
Another 39 locations have been prioritised for resurfacing works subject to any finalised increase in capital budget allocation and any potential underspend being carried forward - should funds become available.
Details of the prioritised road works schemes for the Inverness area can be viewed in the report appendix 2 here.
Members noted that where future adjustments may be required to the rolling programme agreed – any updates will be shared with Members at Area Business Meetings to maintain flexibility in the dynamic roads programme.
