Capital Programme approved for Nairnshire roads 2026/27

Members of the Nairnshire Committee have agreed a proposed rolling programme of road works for the Nairnshire roads capital allocation for 2026/27 onwards.

The agreed programme was approved prior to confirmation of the Area budget which will be confirmed at the Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee on 12 February 2026.

Members also noted that the Area rolling programme may require to be updated once results from the Scottish Road Maintenance Condition Survey have been received and considered.

The estimated local funding allocation for Nairnshire (based on the 2025/26 figures) is £682,495.

Nairnshire Committee Chair, Cllr Michael Green said: “I am pleased that we are ready to progress on road works as soon as the funds are made available. The rolling programme that Members have agreed will enable officers to start delivering agreed road works as soon as budgets are confirmed and to react quickly if additional external funding becomes available in future.”

Councillors have agreed funding allocations for 5 specified locations for roads resurfacing works at:

  • (U3229) Cairn Avenue in Nairn;
  • (U1169) Achneim to Little Urchany (in two phases);
  • (C1163) Little Kildrummie; and
  • (B9090) Meikle Kildrummie junction to Balblair Road.

Members allocated £25,000 funding for footpaths reconstruction/resurfacing works and £75,000 for major patching in Nairnshire.

Another 11 locations have been prioritised for resurfacing works subject to any finalised increase in capital budget allocation and any potential underspend being carried forward - should funds become available.

Details of the prioritised road works schemes for the Nairnshire area can be viewed in the report appendix 2 here.

Members noted that where future adjustments may be required to the rolling programme agreed – any updates will be shared with Members at Area Business Meetings to maintain flexibility in the dynamic roads programme.
