Council Welcomes Outcome of HIE Review

The Highland Council Convener Sandy Park welcomed the outcome of the Scottish Government's  review of HIE, retaining the core functions of the agency.  Councillor Park led a council delegation that recently met with John Swinney on the future of the HIE network.

He said: "Over the past 40 years, HIE and its predecessor, Highlands and Islands Development Board, have served the Highlands very well in regenerating the economy.  We have formed a strong partnership with HIE to develop services and infrastructure that reflect the needs of Highland businesses and create employment opportunities.

"Particular focus at this time is on the Caithness Regeneration Programme, where we aim to fill the jobs void caused by the rundown of Dounreay."
