Wake up with the Natural World

The Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers have organised two dawn guided walks so the “early birds” amongst us can enjoy the  special sites and sounds of the natural world awakening and experience the magic of a Spring day morning.

The first adventure takes place from 5am to 9am on Saturday 26 April, with a guided walk winding up the rocky crags of Craigellachie National Nature Reserve, the viewpoint overlooking Aviemore.

Ranger Saranne Bish says:  “This will be a fantastic chance to hear the first birds begin their day as we slowly walk up to the viewpoint. This dawn walk through ancient native birch woods will be a real treat and the fantastic view from the top opens up to show all of Badenoch & Strathspey. Anyone coming along will feel like they’re on top of the world. As a real treat we can go to the Mountain Café after for breakfast as we’ll have all earnt it!”

The next early morning walk takes place on Wednesday 30 April from 5am to 7.30am. Ranger Duncan MacDonald will take early risers for a wander in the woods to listen to the dawn chorus and to look out for other early risers from the natural world.

Places on both of these walks are limited and must be booked in advance by contacting Saranne on 01479 873907.  Details of where to meet up will be given at the time of booking.

These guided walks are part of a programme of guided walks and events organised by Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers throughout the Highlands. Copies of the programmes can be found on the Council’s website or by telephoning 01540 673 907.
