Council puts the brakes on drivers at three more Highland Schools

Two schools in Lochaber and one in East Ross are having 20mph speed limits introduced.

Part time 20mph speed limits are now in place at Ardross Primary School and apply on school days from 8:30 to 9:00; 12:30 to 12:45; 13:00 to 13:15; 14:30 to 14:45; and 15:00 to 15:15.

Motorists are also being warned that part time 20mph speed restrictions will be introduced at St Brides and Acharacle Primary schools in Lochaber for children’s safety in May.

A permanent 20mph speed limit will become effective on the entire length of School Road, Acharacle with effect from Friday 2nd May, 2008.

A part time 20mph speed limit will become effective on the Glencoe - Kinlochleven - North Ballachulish road at St Brides Primary School, North Ballachulish from Tuesday 6th May, 2008.  The limit will be operational from 8:45 to 9:00; 14:30 to 14:45 and 15:15 to 15:30.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Procurator Fiscal Service.
