Evening walk at Abriachan

An evening guided walk is being planned in Abriachan this weekend on Saturday 16 August from 8 -10pm when members of the public will get the chance to meet dusk and night time creatures with Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers.

“Things that go bump in the night” is a family friendly event during which participants can try to find out more about shy nocturnal creatures that are not often seen.

The event is part of the Council’s 2008 programme of Ranger Guided Walks and Events throughout the Highlands which aims to raise awareness and encourage appreciation of the scenery, wildlife and heritage of the Highlands.

Katy Martin, Highland Council’s Inverness Ranger said: “Dusk is a magical time to be out in the woodland. It's the time when the day shift of animals meets the night shift. It’s also a time when you have to use all your senses to work out what's out and about too. Most of our resident mammals are most active at dusk and dawn, so there's a good chance to see them."

Places are free on the event and can be booked on tel: 01463 710786. This event is most suitable for families with children aged 8-12 and all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The meeting place and directions will be given out on booking.

The Highland Council Countryside Rangers are a partnership between The Highland Council and Scottish Natural Heritage with the aim of promoting public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and conserving wildlife.
