Council Youth Tent hailed Bella success

A Youth Tent set up at Belladrum Festival by The Highland Council has been hailed a success for the second year running.

The aim of the tent was to provide a chill out space for young people where they could seek information and support.

Chair of Highland Youth Voice Anna Dougan said: “This is a great idea to provide a haven where young people can go to at Belladrum, for a bit of craic and friendship or get advice or information. I congratulate everyone involved in setting up and running the tent for all their hard work.”

Yvonne Boa, Highland Council’s Youth Development Officer from Ullapool who ran the tent this year with other Youth Development Officers Audrey Anthoney, Yvonne Ross and Mark Holloway said: “Teenagers are too old for face painting and too young for beer tents so the Youth Tent was an ideal place for them to come to. Anyone else who wanted to drop-in was also very welcome!

“Thanks to Highland Council, Tesco Ullapool and Morrisons we offered healthy snacks, and water free of charge. Information leaflets on relevant matters to young people and games were also available and with the help of comfortable inflatable sofas, visitors to the tent could chat to other young people and youth workers from around the Highlands.

“We also had free ponchos available in case it rained but thankfully we didn’t need them this year! We will keep them stored for next year!”

Some young people from Ullapool, Jayanne Mackenzie, Karen Osborne, Polly McGregor and Phoebe Ross also helped staff the tent over the weekend. Special thanks also go to Alness boys, David Jones and David Dunbar for helping to set up the tent with their local Youth development officers.
