Forest felling operations at Smithton

Motorists and pedestrians in the Murray Road and Tower Road area of Smithton, Inverness are being advised that forest felling operations by Scottish Woodlands will take place next week starting on Monday 18th August.

Scottish Woodlands will be felling and hauling timber from a triangle of forestry land located at the corner of Murray Road and Tower Road, next to Smithton Free Church.

On Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th, the works will have no effect on the travelling public. On Wednesday 20th Scottish Woodlands intend to fell timber adjacent to the boundaries with both Murray Road and Tower Road and single lane closures on both roads will be required. These single lane closures will be necessary to provide a safety zone to separate pedestrians and vehicles from the timber felling operation. Three-way temporary traffic signals will be introduced to control traffic.

On Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd the works will directly affect Tower Road only and two-way temporary traffic signals will be in operation.

From Wednesday to Friday the work times are to be restricted to between 9:30am and 4:45pm and after 6:15pm, if required, so that the impact on peak hour traffic will hopefully be kept to a minimum. Traffic will be held for as a short a period as possible with priority given to Emergency vehicles and buses.
