Motorists urged to cut their speed at four more Highland Schools

Three more primary schools and one secondary school have had reduced speed limits introduced by The Highland Council for children’s’ safety.

A new 30 mph speed limit and part-time 20 mph speed limit is now operational on roads near Canisbay Primary school at. Part-time 20 mph speed limits have also been introduced at Wick North and Pennyland Primary schools and at Fortrose Academy.

The part time speed limits will be in operation on school days at:
 
• Canisbay from 8:55am to 9:15am; 2:45pm to 3pm; and 3:15pm to 3:30pm;

• Wick North from 8:30am to 9:10am; 12:15pm to 12:30pm; 12:45pm to 1:00pm; 1:10pm to 1:30pm; 3:10pm to 3:25pm;

• Pennyland from 8:35am to 8:55am; 12:35pm to 12:45pm; 1:20pm to 1:35pm; 2:45pm to 3:00pm; 3:15pm to 3:30pm; and

• Fortrose from 8:40am to 9:00am; 10:55am to 11:20am; 12:50pm to 1:10pm; 1:45pm to 2:00pm; 3:40pm to 3:55pm.

This now brings into place 56 of the 63 Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross schools and 75 of the 82 Ross, Skye and Lochaber schools at which 20 mph speed limits are being introduced.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Procurator Fiscal Service.
