More than 10,000 Enjoy Ness Islands Lights Spectacle

The Highland Council estimates that more than 10,000 spectators visited the Ness Islands, Inverness, at the weekend to meet Santa Claus and his reindeer and enjoy the festive lights.

Santa's Visit - one of the showcase events in the first Inverness Winter Festival - was so popular that the show was extended by an hour on both days by the Winter Festival Organisers.

The illumination of Ness Islands was created by The Highland Council's Lighting Department and Evanton-based company, Arts in Motion.

Councillor Glynis Sinclair, a member of the Inverness Winter Festival Committee, said: “I am delighted that so many people were able to enjoy the magic of the Ness Islands. The islands were a perfect setting for the event and I hope it will be the venue for more festivals.”

The lights will remain on display from 3 – 11 pm until Tuesday 6 January 2009.
