Drakies and Crown Pupils Share Glory At South Highland Primary Schools Badminton Championships

Pupils from Drakies and Crown Primary Schools scoped the top trophies at the recent South Highland Primary Schools Badminton Championships.

Stephen Grant of Drakies Primary School comfortable won the Boys Singles competition with a 21-9 victory over opponent Rory Murphy of Tomnacross Primary. Stephen then partnered Liam Mudie of Drakies to win the Boys Doubles competition.

In Girls competition, Erica Johnstone of Crown Primary School won the Singles competition in a close fought match, winning 21-17 against Victoria Black of Lochardil Primary. Erica then partnered Hazel Wilson of Crown to win the Girls Doubles competition.

All the semi-finalists will now compete in a play off against the semi-finalists of the equivalent Ross-shire competition in March for a chance to represent the Highlands in the Scottish Schools Badminton Championships in Perth in April.

Suzy Hamilton, the Active Schools Coordinator for the Inverness Royal Academy primaries, and organiser of the competition said:  “It was an exceptionally high standard of badminton this year. Credit must go to the hard work and dedication of the badminton volunteer coaches who help produce such talented players and indeed the players who put such time and commitment in to the sport.”
