Recycling Fun Day At Hilton

Last week, children in Hilton were treated to a fun packed morning of recycling and composting activities by The Highland Council’s Waste Aware Team at the Hilton Community Centre.  The activities included making your own compost in a bottle, playing the giant recycling floor game and helping to make a recycled art banner which will be displayed at the Hilton Community Centre.

The Highland Council’s Waste Aware Mascot “Compost” also popped in to say hello to everyone and to hand out loads of recycled prizes including rucksacks, pencil cases and frisbees.  The children even got a chance to see how the kerbside recycling lorry works that collects the paper and cans from the blue boxes.

This event has been run by the Waste Aware Highland Team as part of a campaign to encourage more people to take advantage of their kerbside recycling service and remember to recycle all of their paper, cans and garden waste.

Chairman of the TEC Services Committee, Councillor John Laing said: “The Council’s current recycling rate is just over 30% which is a great improvement on this time last year and we would like to thank you all for taking the time and effort to recycle.  Don’t forget that there are also many Recycling Points located throughout Inverness for you to recycle your glass bottle & jars and textiles.”

Plastic bottles are now accepted at the Inverness Recycling Centre which is open 7 days a week from 9.30am – 8.00pm.  For more information about waste minimisation and recycling please visit: http://www.highland.gov.uk/recycle.htm; email recycle@highland.gov.uk or call 01349 868439.
