IT Group in Nairn

Nairn ABE (Adult Basic Education) recently started an information technology group class that aims to empower its learners in the use of personal computers.

Using a friendly and informal approach in a relaxed atmosphere, participants are learning at an easy pace, beginning with very simple tasks and moving on to more advanced levels with regard to the knowledge and practical use of the Windows operating system.

The course also aims to increase confidence and inform people how they can assist themselves when using a computer by accessing help files for example.

Highland Council’s Adult Basic Education Coordinator, Mohamed Hamada said: “All of our current learners have computers at home. Most are using different operating systems on their home PCs with some using older operating systems. Applications common to all Windows operating systems such as MS Paint are being taught, while at the same time, information about file management, computer maintenance and security is taught gradually as an integral part of the course.

“It’s important however, to let people have fun because they learn more easily and quickly if they’re enjoying themselves! Games and creative applications can be invaluable aids to learning. So far there has been a very positive response from our learners and we are encouraging them to practise their new skills and acquired knowledge on their home computers.”
