Opinions sought for public park improvements

Public opinion is being sought by greeninverness and The Highland Council about the installation of new play equipment at Bellfield Park, Inverness.

A consultation co-ordinated by greeninverness officer Debbie Maguire aims to find out local views on how to best improve the play equipment at the park. The consultation results will feed into the project brief and specification which will be used to award the contract for the installation of the equipment. The consultation period will run from Monday 17th March until Monday 31st  March 2008.

Provost Bob Wynd, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Inverness City Committee said: “This is a great opportunity to provide new play equipment that will appeal to all age groups in one of our flagship city parks. We recognise the importance of involving the community in the decision making process and by getting a good response to the consultation we hope to provide a fantastic play facility within this important city greenspace.”

Bellfield Park was originally laid out as a Victorian Park in 1929 and is in the Central Ward of Inverness. The park provides a multi-sport facility and is a popular public green space including floral displays, toilets, shop, tennis courts, pitch and putt, a five a side football pitch, a toddler pool and a well used community bandstand. The site is similar to Whin Park in that it provides a leisure facility to the whole city and not just residents within its ward. It is also a key tourist attraction within the city centre.

Questionnaires have been issued to all Primary Schools in the area and are available from Inverness Library, Church Street Service Point and Town House reception. You can also download a copy of the questionnaires from the greeninverness website at http://www.greeninverness.com/.

Completed questionnaires must be returned by Monday 31st March 2008 to any of the boxes at Inverness Library, Church Street Service Point and Town House reception or they can be posted to Iain Reid at The Highland Council, TEC Services, Diriebught Road, Inverness.
