Butterfly Survey Training for Skye and Lochalsh residents

People in Skye and Lochalsh are being invited to learn how to identify and survey butterflies in their own areas.

Dr Tom Prescott, Species Conservation Officer with Butterfly Conservation Scotland will be giving illustrated talks followed by field visits to learn to identify some of Highland’s distinctive butterflies.

On Saturday 24th May, Dr Prescott will be at Dornie Hall; and on Sunday 25th May, he will be at Dunvegan Village Hall. Both events take place on from 10:30am to 3:30pm and booking is essential to attend.

Dr Prescott  said: “These two events are for anyone, whether you are completely new to butterflies and want to know more or can already recognise most of the butterflies in the area.  Each event will be informal and fun.”

The events are part of the Highland Biodiversity Partnership Communities Project for Highland Biodiversity which is supported by The Highland Council; Heritage Lottery Fund, Scottish Natural Heritage, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and the RSPB.

The aim of these events is to encourage butterfly enthusiasts in Skye and Lochalsh to contribute records of these very special insects to a national recording scheme.
