Gairloch High School pupils Rhoda Tippet, Charlie Mays, Megan Crueize, Amber Fox, Shannon Stewart, Kayleigh Elder, Charmayne Fraser and Alex Warren were invited to the Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh Area Ward Forum meeting at Lochcarron Village Hall on Monday 19 May to present their piece of artwork.

The Triptych entitled the “Wonders of Wester Ross” was created over 4 weekends.  Made up from each pupil’s individual piece of work depicting a story about the area or reflecting the young peoples experiences of living in Wester Ross, the artwork was produced with the assistance of Black Isle artist Lizzie Mcdougall.

Other young people involved but unable to attend the Forum were Jess Ryan, Siannie Moody and Emma Potter.

During the main ward meeting, Charlie, Megan, Shannon, Kayleigh, Charmayne and Alex Warren individually stood up and confidently explained their artwork to the Forum which got huge praise and admiration from those present.

The “Wonders of Wester Ross Project” was part of a wider youth activity programme delivered by the Gairloch Youth Work Team and funded by The Highland Council & Youthlink.

Fiona Downie, Gairloch Youth Development Officer said:  “All the young people worked really well and had a lot of fun during the project.  The end result is a fantastic piece of art, which is to go on display at Poolewe Hall so it can be enjoyed by the whole community for years to come.”
