New Lease of Life for Eigg Day Centre

A former day care centre on Eigg, no longer needed by The Highland Council, is to be taken over by the Eigg Heritage Trust and used to house residents new to the island or thinking of moving there.

Tigh Corraraigh, a single storey building at Cleadale with three bedrooms, is to be leased by the Council to the trust for 10 years at a nominal rent.

It has not been used since August, last year, when the island primary school was extended to accommodate the nursery, which met there.

Councillor Margaret Davidson, Chairman of the Council’s Housing and Social Work Committee, said: “This is a win:win situation.  The deal will ensure our property is used and maintained, while the local community will benefit by accessing additional accommodation.  The local trust will grant three short assured tenancy lets on a single room basis with shared facilities allowing new people time to experience island life before committing to a long term future there.”
