Council cuts speeding at 7 more Highland schools

As part of The Highland Council’s 20 mph limit at schools programme, 7 more primary schools throughout the Highlands now have 20mph speed limits around their buildings helping to protect children.

Permanent 20 mph limits have been introduced at Kinlochewe Primary; on Station Road and Ben Alder Road, near Dalwhinnie Primary; and on Dochgarroch Cottages Road, at Dochgarroch Primary School.

Part time 20mph signs will operate for children’s’ safety when pupils are arriving and departing from school during term times as follows at:

• Milton Primary from: 08:40 - 09:00; 12:15 -12:30; 12:45 – 13:00; 13:15 – 13:30 and 15:15 – 15:30.
• Shieldaig Primary from: 08:40 – 09:00; 14:30 – 14_45 and 15:00 – 15:15.
• Torridon Primary on: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:15 – 09:30; 15:00 - 15:15 and 15:30 – 15:45; and Wednesday from 09:15 - 09:45; 10:45 - 11:00; 15:00 - 15:15 and 15:30 – 15:45.
• Carrbridge to Kinveachy road in the vicinity of Carrbridge Primary from Monday to Thursday 08:40 – 09:00; 14:35 – 14:50; 15:30 – 15:45; and Friday 08:40 – 09:00; 12:45 – 13:00.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Procurator Fiscal Service.
