High tea at Inverness Victorian Market

Regular visitors to Inverness Victorian Market are invited to participate in a novel event this Friday afternoon (21st November) when the Market traders, friends and customers will partake of “High Tea” in the main Market Arcade.

As part of the ongoing Inverness Old Town Art (IOTA) programme, Glasgow-based international team of artists Nicola Atkinson, Karen Vaughan and Hanna Tuulikki (whose collective name is “BW Cart”) have been commissioned to design entrance features for the Victorian Market.  Over the last two months BW Cart have been gathering information and investigating the character of the Market to help inform their understanding of this Inverness shopping icon.

Part of the process includes a series of special events designed to get to know the traders, local people who use the Market on a regular basis and introduce a new audience to the Market.

The first of these events will be held on Friday 21st November when BW Cart will be hosting a High Tea between 3pm to 5pm.  BW Cart will be sharing their own recipes with the Market traders and putting on a welcoming spread of home baking to which family and friends of the Victorian Market are invited.  The tea party also includes performance of song and live music for the Market traders to experience during their afternoon tea break.

Nicola Atkinson said: “BW Cart has been warmly welcomed by the Market traders who are very passionate about what they do.  We have been discovering what it takes to run a shop and we want to talk to the public who use and work in the Market.  What better way to hear their views by having a chat over a cup of tea.”
