Convener Welcomes Prison Investment in the Highlands

The Highland Council Convener Councillor Sandy Park has welcomed the proposed investment by the Scottish Prison Service in the Highlands, by replacing Porterfield Prison, Inverness.

The SPS has briefed the Council on their plans to build a new prison on a green or brown field site in or near Inverness and has asked for the Council’s support in identifying a suitable location.

Councillor Park said: “This investment in the Highlands is very welcome indeed.  It will give us a 21st century prison for the region replacing a Victorian facility and free up an important city centre site for redevelopment. We will give all the help and advice we can to assist the SPS find an appropriate site for the new prison.”
