High Street On The Agenda

A possible bid to the Town Centre Regeneration Fund is on the agenda at next week’s Ward Forum being held in Fort William.

The Fund is a Scottish Government initiative to support regeneration and growth in town centres with bids being sought from local partnerships throughout Scotland.  The fund will support capital investment in eg streetscape projects, improving derelict sites, shop front improvement etc.

Dot Ferguson, Lochaber Wards Manager said: “This funding gives Fort William the opportunity to refresh its town centre, which in the current economic climate is very welcome.  While we still do not know all the details of the Fund, we wish to use this Ward Forum as an initial consultation exercise to allow people to input their views on how the town centre can be improved.

“Bidding for this fund is likely to be highly competitive, therefore it is essential that we gather views and support as quickly as possible in order to work with partners in both the private and public sectors to submit a robust application”.

While the Ward Forum will also concentrate on wider Fort William issues, there will still be the opportunity to input issues and views concerning the wider Ward 22 area.  The meeting will take place on Monday 20 April at 6.30pm in the Council Chambers, Fort William.
