Inverness pupils Jump2it

Pupils from ten Inverness Primary Schools will be taking part in the national Scottish Sports Futures Jump2it health initiative from 24 – 28 August.

Jump2it is a programme utilising professional athletes to deliver positive messages on healthy living to pupils aged ten years and over. The aim of the programme is to promote an active and healthy lifestyle, encourage participation and good citizenship while highlighting the dangers of poor diet, smoking and alcohol abuse. Roadshows are delivered in schools by the Scottish Rocks professional basketball team

The initiative involves 130 schools nationwide and the 10 primary schools in and around Inverness taking part are: Lochardil, Kirkhill, Cradlehall, Balloch, Smithton, Croy, Muirtown, Beauly, St. Josephs, and Merkinch Primaries.
 
Scottish Rocks professionals will engage with the Inverness pupils emphasising the importance of the healthy living messages and the potential of a healthy body and mind.
 
The programme will include a roadshow delivered by Glasgow Rocks Pro-basketball team with basketball coaching and tournament in partnership with John Kerray - Basketball Scotland’s Highland Co-ordinator and Highland Council’s Active Schools Co-ordinators.

Councillor Bill Fernie, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee said: “This is a very exciting initiative for our older primary pupils to get involved in. Working with our Active Schools Co-ordinators, I am certain that the Scottish Rocks basketball team will have a lasting impact on how our pupils view their own healthy lifestyles.”

Jump2it will be at Lochardil and Kirkhill Primaries on the 24th; Cradlehall and Balloch Primaries on the 25th; Smithton and Croy Primaries on the 26th; Muirtown and Beauly Primary on the 27th and St Joseph’s RC and Merkinch on the 28th August.
