First Live Webcast of Northern Joint Police Board

Issued on behalf of the Northern Joint Police Board

Members of the public across the Highlands and Islands will have the opportunity to watch the Northern Joint Police Board meeting from their homes, when it is webcast live, for the first time on Friday (28 August).

Convener, Councillor Norman MacLeod said: "As part of our commitment to making the decision making process as open and transparent as possible, people will be able to log onto the Highland Council website at  http://www.highland.public-i.tv/site/ and watch the Northern Joint Police Board meeting, which takes place on Friday 28 August.  Highland Council is piloting the webcasting of public meetings that are held in the Highland Council Chamber, Inverness and this will be the first meeting to be broadcast live.”

Mr Ian Latimer, Chief Constable of Northern Constabulary, said: "This is a significant step forward in making these meetings accessible to people in all the communities we serve across the Highlands and Islands. The support and understanding of the public is fundamental to the success of our policing. It is important, especially given the geographically large and diverse nature of the communities we serve across the Highlands and Islands, that people have access to our services, and information about our performance and decision making processes, wherever they live."

The Highland Council has already agreed to pilot the webcast of meetings of its Planning Environment and Development Committee as well as its Inverness Nairn Badenoch and Strathspey Planning Applications Committee and Invernerss Nairn Badenoch and Strathspey Licensing Committee. An archive of the PED meeting held on 12 August is now available on the site.
