Budding young cooks in Ullapool

Young people in Ullapool are still having fun learning to cook with 101 having taken part in the classes since they started three years ago.  Open to all 12 to 25 year olds the cookery classes run one evening a week in the village for a seven week block.

The current group are half way though the course and the budding young chefs have been cooking up lots of tasty dishes including chicken chow mein, pots of soup, chilli, cheese filled pasta shells in a tomato and garlic sauce, apple pie and chicken and stuffing with honey roasted parsnips. To finish the 2009 session they will be baking a chocolate & orange cake just in time for Christmas.

Everyone taking part can gain recognition for their work though a Youth Achievement Award or as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award.

The Highland Council Youth Development Officer Yvonne Boa, supported by a team of local volunteers, will be starting a new course at the end of January which will be aimed specifically for young people aged 15 and over.  This will be followed by a special course starting after Easter for local Primary 7 children who will be will be making the transition to Ullapool High school after the summer holidays.
