Council backs funding repairs for Queens Park Athletics Stadium, Inverness

The first phase of a £125,000 funding package to return Queens Park Athletics Stadium, Inverness,  to regional athletics competition standards was approved today (Thursday) by The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee.

The stadium and track are no longer of a sufficient standard to host regional athletics competitions due to the condition of the track and the throwing area. The nearest alternative facilities capable of hosting regional competitions are at Perth and Aberdeen.

Completing a number of repairs at an estimated cost of £125,000 will restore it to competition standard.

Members approved funding of £62,500 and an application for £62,500 (50%) funding from the  Inverness Common Good Fund will be considered on 9 February by the Council’s Inverness City Committee.

Remedial works at the stadium and track are expected to be completed by the end of March.
