Countryside Rangers rise to dawn chorus

Early risers are invited to make the most of the clocks changing and join The Highland Council's countryside rangers on a dawn guided walk on Saturday 4th April.

At 6am, the Inverness Ranger will be up with the Lark on a free "Dawn Walk" covering an 5km / 3mile route. The walk will last until approximately 9am and the walk will be in the Abriachan area, near Inverness.

During the walk the Ranger will point out some of the creatures that are active at night and at sunrise and participants will be able to appreciate the countryside waking up at this special time of the day.

Katy Martin, the Senior Ranger for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey said: "Early morning is a magical time of day when you can see and hear the countryside wake up around you. This beautiful walk climbs above Loch Ness and we should see the sunrise over the loch.. There is a chance we can see mammals like deer and badgers as well as many hearing the bird dawn chorus in it’s full glory. It really is worth the early start.”

This Dawn guided walk is part of a range of activities and events organised by Highland Council’s Planning and Development Service. The role of Countryside Rangers is to promote public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and to conserve wildlife and habitats.
