Lochaber Royal Visit

Lochaber looks forward to welcoming a royal visitor next week when His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent visits two of the area’s most high profile rescue services.

His Royal Highness will begin his visit on the afternoon of Tuesday 7 April by meeting with members of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team at their prestigious new base at the Glen Nevis Business Park.  He will hear about the work of the Rescue Team, (one of the busiest in the United Kingdom) and will see demonstrations of rescue and medical techniques undertaken by the team, as well as viewing the technology which guides and supports their rescues.  He will then be invited to officially open the new centre.

His Royal Highness will then visit Fort William Fire Station, again one of the busiest stations within the Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service.  There he will view the operation of the control tower and will see a demonstration of the extrication of crash victims from a vehicle.

Provost of Lochaber, Councillor Allan Henderson said: “We are delighted that His Royal Highness is visiting the area and finding out more about the vital and dangerous work which both of these organisations carry out.”
