Inverness flood relief channel

The Highland Council has appointed AECOM to provide detailed design for the South West Inverness Flood Relief Channel.

The project will collect water from the south side burns and transfer it (east to west) into Holm Burn and onto the River Ness. When complete, the scheme will reduce the risk of flooding to around 200 homes and businesses.

The overall scheme is approximately 5km long with 3-4km of newly constructed flood relief channel. The design will provide capacity for a 1 in 200 year flood event. The scheme is split intro three phases. Phase 1&2 will cover the works between the River Ness and Culduthel Channel, whilst phase 3 comprises the upstream length from Culduthel Channel to Ault na Skiah.

AECOM are also reviewing scheme designs for phases one and two before commencing on the detailed design of phase three. Work is expected to start on site in mid 2010.
