Gergask Primary School

Pupils, parents and staff at Gergask Primary School have received praise from Her Majesty’s Inspectors.  The inspectors found evidence of a community which was working in partnership to provide good quality learning experiences for pupils.

Acting Head Teacher, Mrs Alda Munro welcomed HMIe’s findings: “I am happy with the findings of this report and the acknowledgement of the achievements of staff, parents and pupils. We are already working hard on their recommendations to improve self evaluation and challenge.”

Pupils were praised by the inspectors for their politeness, good behaviour and friendliness.  Children’s learning in the nursery and in P1-3 was highlighted as a strength, as was the “care and commitment of the Acting Head Teacher and staff.”

Parents were also praised for their support of the school which had “strong links with the wider community”.

Local councillor, Gregor Rimmell, whose mother attended Gergask Primary School, commented: “The school is vital to the community.  I welcome the inspector’s report.”

Cathy Slimon, Chairperson of the Parent Council, commented: “This is a positive report which reflects the parents and wider community’s confidence in the school.  We are delighted to continue to work with staff and children to support the ongoing development of Gergask School Community.”

The inspectors expressed confidence in the school’s capacity to improve with the support of the local authority and will make no further visits in relation to their recommendations.  Mrs Munro believes that the report provides a very good platform for further improvement as the school moves into Curriculum for Excellence.
