Northern Joint Police Board to commence search for New Chief Constable

Northern Joint Police Board has today (Friday) agreed the process for recruiting the new Chief Constable of Northern Constabulary, who will replace Ian Latimer when he retires in March of next year.

Councillor Norman Macleod, Convener of the Northern Joint Police Board said: “We are delighted to be advertising for a new Chief Constable to take forward the excellent work undertaken by Northern Constabulary under the leadership of the present Chief Constable, Ian Latimer.

“Northern Constabulary is an extremely high performing police force as evidenced once again by this year’s Public Performance Report. The Force works hard in local communities to keep them safe and this is reflected in very high levels of public support.

“Northern Joint Police Board is committed to locally accountable, highly visible policing with local leadership. We are, of course, aware of the ongoing debate on restructuring public services and would welcome the opportunity to discuss how the Force could grow to provide its unique rural policing style to communities which are currently outwith its boundaries.”

The Board’s Appointments Panel has set aside a date in November for interviewing candidates.

The Northern Joint Police Board has also agreed the process for recruiting a Depute Chief Constable and this will commence later in the year. Depute Chief Constable Garry Sutherland is due to retire in 2011.
