Nairn pupils receive Sports Leaders awards

Nineteen S4 Nairn Academy pupils were recently presented with the Level 1 Sports Leaders UK Certificate.

Trained through The Highland Council’s Active Schools initiative the young people who volunteered to be part of the popular Nairn Leadership programme were put through their paces during weekly afterschool sessions.

Sports Leader Awards encourage learning by doing and as a result the youngsters learned not only how to deliver sports and physical activity but also how to organise, motivate and improve their communication skills. This in turn boosts their confidence and helps in work, education and life.

Supported locally by Coaching Highland, Sports Leader Award’s are nationally recognised qualifications which assist towards future employment and further education.

The young leaders now join the high profile Dreams & Teams group who although are not necessarily sporting superstars deliver sports and volunteer in the school cluster, at wider community events and have links with Malawi.

The pupils who received their certificates are: Alex Robinson, Alister Baird, Amy Liddel, Andrew Burgess, Bradley Wood, Gemma Bain, Hazel McLaren, Jane Paterson, Kate Finlayson, Kayleigh Dennis, Grant Elder, Craig Smith, Jasmin Taylor, Siobhan Ford, Katie Smith, Iona McMurtie, David Wickenden, Stephanie Ross, and Carys Eccleshall.
