The Highland Council to develop serviced commercial plots in Inverness

The Council has awarded contracts worth £1.6m to develop 13 commercial plots at the Carsegate Industrial Estate and a further 8 on the Longman.  Work will commence this month and will be complete in the spring of 2011.

The projects are being funded by the Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Fund which aims to bring long term vacant and derelict sites back into productive use.

Councillor Ian Ross, Chairman of the Planning, Environment and Development Committee said:  “The provision of 21 serviced commercial plots in Inverness is a much needed and welcome addition to the City of Inverness, especially during challenging economic times.  These serviced plots will suit business start up as well as small business that have outgrown their current premises.  Upfront development costs are often a barrier to businesses establishing new premises.  On this occasion the Vacant and Derelict Land Fund will effectively remove this barrier and encourage development to take place. “

To date the Highland Council has used the Vacant and Derelict Land Fund to support a range of initiatives from affordable housing developments in Caithness and land acquisition in Inverness and Invergordon.

If anyone wishes to receive further detail on the serviced plots they are asked to contact Duncan Reid, Property Manager (industrial and Investment) on 01463 724350
