Surf and turf on menu at Easter Ross Ward Forum

The Highland Council’s role in Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Harbours is the topic of the next Tain and Easter Ross Ward Forum being held next Thursday (25 February).

The Council’s Countryside, Heritage and Natural Resources Manager, George Hamilton, will be attending to explain the Council’s role in policy and development control advice to practical and financial assistance for strategic projects across the Council area.

Councillor Alan Torrance, who will be Chairing the Forum, said the subjects being covered will be of interest to all the communities in this very rural Ward.

“Portmahomack and Balintore have harbours; Tain is known for its Mussels; Forestry is a big part of the landscape and although only 1.1% of the Ward population is employed in agriculture and fishing, farming is still at the heart of most communities,” he added.

Also in attendance will be Tim Cockerill, Forest District Manager, to explain the work that the Forestry Commision does in the Ward.

The Tain and Easter Ross Ward Forum is being held in the Carnegie Hall, Portmahomack on Thursday 25 February from 7.30pm to 9.30pm with a 20-minute slot allocated at the end of the meeting for questions from the public.  Teas and coffees, hosted by Tarbat Community Council, will be available from 7pm to 7.30pm.

Every Community Council in the Tain and Easter Ross Ward and other representative community organisations are members of the Ward Forum and have the opportunity to feed the views of their community into the subjects being discussed.
