Invitation to focus on policing issues and Highland Council budget at City Forum

Community groups and members of the public are invited to attend a City Forum next week which will provide the opportunity to hear about the budget challenges facing The Highland Council and also find out about the different roles the Police have in relation to community safety.

The Forum, which will take place on Tuesday 26 January in Inverness Town House, is part of a programme of City Forums which address issues that cut across the boundaries of the seven City Wards.

Representatives from Northern Constabulary will be present to explain how they recognise the specific needs of the city when deciding how to devolve resources and will be looking for feedback on how communities can support them in their duties. 

Chief Inspector Andrew MacLean, Area Commander said:  This Forum will be an opportunity for the public to learn a little more about the delivery of policing services within Inverness.  It will explain the various challenges modern day policing faces in a city environment and will reassure the public about the efforts of the police in contributing to making communities safer.”

There will also be an opportunity to hear from senior politicians and officials as to the financial pressures facing the Council over the coming years.

Provost Jimmy Gray said:  “This Forum is a chance for community groups and interested people from across the city to come along and take part in discussions on issues which are relevant to them and which directly affect their lives.  It is not just about sitting and listening to me and others speak.  What we really want is for people to come along and be part of the Forum by giving us their comments and suggestions and feedback on what they think works and what needs to be improved.”

It is hoped that future City Forums can highlight other relevant issues which affect the City and adjacent landward areas.
