Partnership response to the closure of Dornoch Slaughterhouse

The Highland Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise have received the Options Appraisal they commissioned to look into options for the future operation of Dornoch Slaughterhouse. The report describes how the operation in Dornoch is a victim of difficult market conditions in slaughtering and meat processing across Scotland. HIE and Highland Council will meet later this week to discuss the report’s findings and actively review possible next steps.

In the meantime, staff facing redundancy at the Slaughterhouse are receiving assistance though Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE). The PACE event, which was postponed from 1 February due to the bad weather, is taking place on Wednesday 24 Feb. The event, organised by Skills Development Scotland, brings together advisers from Jobcentre Plus, Skills Development Scotland and the Council to advise the affected staff on issues surrounding redundancy, accessing training and finding new employment.
