Fort William Primary Schools netball tournament

The annual Fort William Primary Schools Netball Tournament held today (Monday, 31st May), was won by Banavie Primary School, while the League title was shared between Banavie and Upper Achintore.

Organised by Highland Council’s Active Schools Co-ordinator Bridget Thomas and PE teacher Carol Cairns, the tournament is a chance for all the teams, who have been playing each other in a round robin format over the last 3 months, to come together for one final event.

Active Schools Co-ordinator Bridget Thomas said: “This year’s League went down to the wire with the last game needed to decide the top 4 teams.  In the end Banavie and Upper Achintore shared the top spot, each winning all but one of their 6 league games, followed by Inverlochy and then by Caol.

“At the Tournament, both semi finals and the final were decided by just 1 point, making for 3 exciting, nail bitingly close games.  Banavie beat Fort William 6,5 in the first semi final, before Caol knocked out Upper Achintore with a score of 2,1.  Extra time was needed in the Final to decide between the 2 teams, who were both playing some superb netball, with Banavie securing a well deserved win and a final score of 4 points to Caol’s 3.

She added: “A huge thanks go to all the school staff and parents who have worked so hard training the girls and taking them to matches over the last 2 terms.”
