Highland Council welcomes Cruise Ship

Passengers on the Dutch owned vessel "MV Van Gogh Cruise Ship" will this week receive a warm Caithness welcome when they will be offered a mini-bus trip to Thurso courtesy of The Highland Council.

The Council’s Caithness Area has over recent years been actively encouraging more cruise ship passengers docking at Scrabster Harbour to visit Thurso for shopping and entertainment in the town.

Highland Council’s Caithness Area Convener, Councillor David Flear said: "Often, ship passengers go on pre-arranged excursions to see visitor attractions and sites of interest in Caithness, however, the remainder who do not wish to see the local sites are being enticed to visit Thurso.

"We have tried this approach in the past to encourage cruise visitors to sample what Thurso has to offer and it has proven beneficial both the visitors and to our local business community."

The MV Van Gogh, which can carry up to 550 passengers, will berth at Scrabster Harbour at 8am on Thursday 27th April and depart, same day at 3pm.
