New school site at Conon Bridge Chosen

The Highland Council’s Education Culture and Sport Committee has agreed that the new amalgamated primary school, serving Conon Bridge and Maryburgh, should be built on the existing Conon Bridge school site.

Committee members opted for the school location in favour of a site at Windor Place in Conon Bridge.  The two sites had emerged as the main options following a detailed options appraisal exercise.

The school site is considered large enough and configured in such a manner that would allow the existing school at Conon Bridge to remain operational during the construction of the new school, with subsequent demolition to make way for playing fields.

In approving the amalgamation of Conon Bridge Primary and Maryburgh Primary School, in August, last year, the Committee agreed that officials should examine a number of options for the site of the new school. Initially 12 locations were identified as possible sites and, following analysis, the school site and Windsor Place were short-listed for detailed examination.
