Successful city hockey camp brings 2011 Summer Activities programme to a close
Last Friday was the last session of a three day hockey camp at the Bught astro-turf pitch in Inverness and also signalled the end of this year’s Highland Council Summer Activities Programme in Inverness.
The Highland Council’s Active Schools Co-ordinator Miles Fuller who organised the hockey camp said: “The camp has now become a firm favourite with local primary school children, and in some homes, along with tennis at Bellfield Park, is apparently one of the first activities that they book onto. We have been running the camps for three years now, and many children have attended every one.”
“In running this year’s hockey camp, we were fortunate in having some junior players, who last year were awarded their Level 1 coaching awards, to assist Coach,Martin Gent. In fact two of the coaches currently play in the national teams and are great role models.”
Kevin Thomson, Sports Development Officer added: “From feedback I have received, this year’s Summer Activities Programme has been a great success, particularly with the Active Schools Team running as ‘pilot projects’, two, week long multi-sport activity camps based at Charleston and Milburn Academies. Parents are already asking which weeks we will be running the camps next year.”
The Summer Activities Programme is organised by the Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Service and offers a diverse range of holiday and leisure opportunities across the Highlands.
