Gaelic story-telling and information on Gaelic medium Education in Badenoch and Strathspey
The Council are running a Gaelic story-telling session for under 5 year olds in Aviemore Library at 11am on Friday 26th August an information display will also be present in the library commencing on the 22nd.
The display will then move on to Kingussie Library with a Gaelic story-telling session at 2pm on Monday 29th August.
This will lead up to a “ Why Gaelic Matters “ with a talk by Roddy Maclean in Aviemore on Saturday 3rd September at 10am. This provides an opportunity for members of the public to find out about bilingualism as well as to find out about forthcoming Gaelic Classes through-out the area.
Councillor Jaci Douglas said: “This is a great opportunity for families to find out more about Gaelic and Gaelic Education, as introducing a second language to children when they are young, and having them continue into Gaelic Education so they have a bilingual education has hugely positive outcomes for the child. These events are timely as the Council is in the process of drafting its second Gaelic Language Plan and will be going to public consultation in the Autumn. I would encourage anyone with young children to pop in to see the displays or partake in one of the taster sessions to see what it’s all about, remember it’s never too late to learn something new so maybe adults will be inspired as well.”
