Appointment of Director of Finance in Highland

Derek Yule, currently Head of Finance and Section 95 Officer in Aberdeenshire Council, has been appointed Director of Finance with The Highland Council. 

He will take over as Director of Finance from Alan Geddes, who retires at the end of September after 40 years in local government and 13 in his current post. Mr Geddes is also the Council’s Depute Chief Executive. 

Mr Yule, who has worked for Aberdeenshire Council for 11 years, is also Treasurer of Grampian Fire and Rescue Service; the North East of Scotland Transport Partnership and the North East of Scotland Planning and Development Authority. 

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and is a past chairman of CIPFA in Scotland. He recently received the Ian Doig Award for services to the Institute in Scotland.  He is also a member of the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation. 

Married with four children, Mr Yule lives in Inverurie and enjoys sports, including football and golf. 

He said: “I am delighted to accept this new challenge in my career. I know that I am joining an excellent Council, and I look forward to building on the strengths that the Finance Service already has, and supporting the Council as it faces the current challenging financial climate.”
